| THERE ARE JUST ENOUGH ABORTIONS IN THE WORLD ACCORDING TO SOME - [Rachel Watkins] |
| 5/3/2010 |
Over at lifenews.com they are commenting about a series of articles at Daily Kos:
http://www.lifenews.com/nat6295.html
The article is eye-opening and worth a full read. However, I wanted to make a point of one of Daily Kos comments:
"The author described that in the earlier stages of pregnancies the fetus resembles a “fleshy jellybean” and complained that Oklahoma has become, “a testing ground for radical anti-abortion lawmaking.”
The author also felt that having a pregnant woman view her fetus before receiving an abortion is the same as:
A: Setting a firefighter on fire before he can rush into a burning building B: Requiring a soldier to get shot before he is issued a firearm C: Showing a man seeking a vasectomy his own vas deferens by sticking a camera in through his urethra.
Not really anywhere equivalent to a pregnant woman looking at her unborn baby before an abortion. But good enough for the abortion absolutists at Daily Kos."
Amazing examples. A firefighter, a soldier and a vasectomy. All are jolting to consider but none of them fit.
A soldier and firefighter are given so much training prior to doing their job prior to actually doing it that they would tell you they know exactly what a fire is like and what a gunshot is.
Having friends and family who are both firefighters and/or soldier they will tell you they DO know exactly what is it like. My captain firefighter friend will tell you about the fires he endured during training and my brothers, the soldiers, will tell you of the practice they went through prior to being given a gun.
As for the vasectomy - a guy can watch if he wants. Many docs have that capacity in their offices and hospitals. I don't know if they actually do but in that it is done under a local, it is offered just as a woman can watch a birth. Oh, that's right a woman is encouraged to watch a birth but not an abort.
So their examples are as shaky as their arguments.
The end result remains the same - the pro-aborts don't want to give women all the information they need and should be allowed to have. Same old, same old. They say they only want to empower women but in truth are seeking to keep them ignorant.

| IF YOU ARE GOING THROUGH HELL... [Rachel Watkins] |
| 5/3/2010 |
keep on going.
There is a twangy country song of the same title by Rodney Atkins:
"If you're going through hell Keep on going, don't slow down If you're scared, don't show it You might get out Before the devil even knows you're there"
These words could be considered contrived or simplistic but as someone who has been there, done and seems to be doing again - it is true.
Hell on earth can be real and we know it. We all know that there are some people whose very lives are hellish. We also know that we all face pain, challenges and struggles that seem more than we can bear.
It does no one any good or kindness to tell them 'it isn't too bad" or "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.' Those words might sound nice to you but having been on the receiving end of such platitudes they are actually unkind.
If someone you know is going through a difficult time, if they are in hell, let them know you are there for them. Don't dismiss their pain, their sadness as insignificant or not as bad as what you have endured or worse than someone you read about. Let them tell you how bad it is, how sad they are and how overwhelmed they feel. Then ask them how you can help. Tell them you will be praying for them but ask if they need anything more. Ask them if they need a meal, some help with watching the kids or a place to come for a cup of tea.
Helping someone through hell means you'll have to give of yourself, be unselfish and perhaps feel inadequate and uncomfortable. But it is worth it.
As the song tell us - "But the good news Is there's angels everywhere out on the street Holding out a hand to pull you back up on your feet"
Be that angel today because you might need one tomorrow.

I know - from past, sinful experience I know this is true. Now, some unlikely women are ready to admit the same thing -

| THE NEXT TIME YOU HEAR FOR A PUSH FOR CONTRACEPTION FOR EVERY WOMAN [Rachel Watkins] |
| 5/4/2010 |
just ask whoever is shouting it if those women have water.
Would you be surprised to know that while food and shelter are need as basic human rights - water is not. Seriously.
Despite the fact that you normally can't survive more than about 21 days without water but you can survive months/weeks without shelter depending on the climate.
20% of the world is without potable water, water in close proximity and/or both. Not to mention, that the world is suffering from an inability to remove the waste we produce daily because of this same lack of water.
Think about it, ladies. Every month we take for granted our ability to take care of our personal issues with water that comes in and out of our homes. And every month around the world young girls and women cannot. They are prevented from attending school, working and more, all because they cannot take of themselves safely and privately due to a lack of readily available water.
So - the next time you hear the UN or some whack group is pushing to get contraception, abortions or other unwanted and unasked for 'family planning' to every woman take a moment to ask -But do they have water?
I can guarantee you every woman (man and child) in the world would take clear, available water before any of those things. |

I want to see "Babies" (Steven Greydanus says it is a not miss), I want to see "The Book of Kells" and will sheepishly admit I want to see Iron Man 2. Got a little, just a little crush on Robert Downey Jr.
Nothing else is catching my eye. |

| DON'T ASK FOR DIRECTIONS IN BALTIMORE CITY [Rachel Watkins] |

I love Baltimore, lived and worked there for almost 10 years and find this story hard to believe as I've never encountered anything but great efforts by Baltimore City Police.
That being said, I also know every city has idiots - sadly, one happens to work for the Baltimore City Police Dept. (at least for now).

| ONCE IN AWHILE YOU READ SOMETHING THAT MAKES YOU FEEL [Rachel Watkins] |

a bit better about the media.
This post over at the LA Times is a refreshing piece of writing in a time when so many journalists want nothing more than get their names in print by trashing the Church.
After all, writing a damning book about the Church is a guaranteed best-seller. It need not be historically accurate in even small details just full of anti-Catholic rants.

| ADD THIS STORY TO THE "I HAVE NO RIGHT TO COMPLAIN" BOX YOU SHOULD HAVE... [Rachel Watkins] |
| 5/6/2010 |
We all believe we have a right to complain about our lives. And sometimes we do. Sometimes our lives are a real struggle and God asks us to do something that we find almost impossible.
During those times complain - only to God - and ask for more grace, more strength, more understanding - and remember this beautiful young girl:

| AND SPEAKING OF MOTHER'S DAY [Rachel Watkins] |
| 5/6/2010 |
When you (Mom) let go and let Dad and the kids do more around the house as they celebrate you - keep letting them on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc., etc.....
When we learn to let go, they'll help more - studies prove it!
http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2009-05-04-equal-parenting_N.htm
Now, of course, this equality parenting can't happen because Dad is at work (such as with my Matt), but when he is home, I still have to remind myself that he is a capable adult who will do just fine without any of my suggestions and even better if I don't roll my eyes!
Learn to let go, Mom and your husband (and even your kids) will be better for it! |

| TODAY IS THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE PILL [Rachel Watkins] |
| 5/6/2010 |
So, morning TV is off as every show is covering it with hoopla, praise and accolades.
Apparently, it is the best thing we have ever been given as women even beyond education and jobs. Without the Pill we would be absolutely miserable....
Or would we?
How many women have died from the Pill? How many women have been rendered infertile from the Pill? How many women have lost their libido, gained weight and been miserable because of the Pill?
Not to mention-
How many babies have been lost due to the abortions the Pill causes if fertilization is successful?
I know of at least one - mine. Matt and I lost our first baby due to our use of the Pill. I was pregnant one week - HUGE surprise needless to say - and not within two.
My doctor at the time was dismissive and unkind. "This is what happens if you get pregnant on the Pill. Didn't you know? It isn't as if you wanted to be pregnant did you??"
That was the beginning - a painful beginning - to Matt and I reconciling ourselves to the beauty and truth of the Church's teaching on family planning.
Happy Anniversary Pill - we will not know its true impact until the end of time when we will be granted both full knowledge and the courage to face the lies we tell ourselves.
May the Blessed Mother pray for all of us. |
